CCDV-F Domains D1 and D2: Agents, Applications and Integration

CCDV-F domains D1 and D2 are Agents & Workflows and Applications & Integration. Together they make up 47.8% of the exam. D2 is the heaviest domain at 33.1%, and D1 adds 14.7%. Both test how you build working Claude software: API calls, application design and agent loops.

D2 Applications & Integration (33.1%)

D2 is the largest domain on CCDV-F, about a third of the exam. It tests whether you can turn business and functional requirements into working code. The official exam guide lists six sub-topics for D2, with their share of the whole exam.

  • Understanding Requirements (3.4%). Translating business and functional requirements into working code.
  • Systems Life Cycle (2.8%). Lifecycle concepts applied to Claude software.
  • Claude API Mechanics (6.8%). Messages, tools, streaming, vision, thinking, caching, third-party invocation and the Batches API.
  • Software Engineering Foundations (7.4%). REST APIs, JSON, async programming, version control and code review.
  • Claude Application Design (8.6%). Claude Code, Desktop, claude.ai, the API and the SDKs.
  • Configuration Management (4.1%). CLAUDE.md, settings.json, model version pinning and plugin dependencies.

D1 Agents & Workflows (14.7%)

D1 is about agent construction and the decision to use an agent at all. It tests choosing between a workflow and an agent, and the criteria behind that choice.

  • Agent construction with the Claude Agent SDK. Custom agent loops and harnesses.
  • Deployment. Self-hosted compared with Anthropic-hosted.
  • Design patterns. Tool-use loops, sub-agents, memory and context-window management, applied through frameworks such as Strands, LangGraph or PydanticAI.

How the two domains connect

Most D1 questions assume D2 skills. An agent loop is an API loop with tools, so streaming, tool results and caching show up in both. If you can explain how a request moves through the Messages API, you already hold the base for agent design questions.

Where candidates lose points

D2 breadth is the risk. The domain spans requirements, life cycle, API calls, engineering practice, application design and configuration files. Knowing one area deeply and the others lightly leaves gaps, because the weight is spread across all six sub-topics.
